Liz Jeneid

Liz Jeneid

Weaver, printmaker, curator, educator and traveller, Illawarra artist Liz Jeneid has been exhibiting her work for the past 40 years. Liz trained as a weaver in the USA in the early 70’s and has represented Australia in several international textile exhibitions. Her current work, encompassing prints, drawings, artist books and watercolours, responds to political issues, the environment and her observations about other cultures and landscapes.

Liz has taken part in numerous artist residencies including the USA, France, Sicily, Crete, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico and NERAM (Armidale) NSW. These experiences continue to influence her work and provide material for her ongoing art practice. Her prints, drawings, installations and books have been exhibited in France, USA, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Mexico, Italy and Poland and held in many public collections, in Australia and overseas.

Thirty years after visiting a friend who was working in San’a in Yemen in 1989, Liz made a series of book works about the city of San’a, the ongoing war and subsequent total destruction of many of the unique world heritage buildings.

In her recent work, after the catastrophic bushfires in 2019/20, Liz has depicted the changed and changing landscape using lino and woodcut prints, watercolours, acrylic paint and artist books, often including ash from the fires in the medium used.
