Linda Bottari

Linda Bottari

From early childhood, Linda has been involved with the printing industry. Her father was a commercial printer with a factory on Pearl Street in lower Manhatten, New York. On special days they went to work together and Linda was given little jobs like opaquing negatives. Thus began her fascination with the reproduction process.

University study earned her a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree during which she studied at the Academia di Belli Arte, Rome, Italy for 1 year.

After a successful career in commercial printing and book publishing, Linda relocated to the Southern Highlands to establish her studio and pursue her interests in printmaking and bookbinding. For the past 10 years Linda has enjoyed exploring various printing techniques, concentrating on collagraph and linocut. She enjoys the painterly quality of collagraph and the precision of linocut.

Her interest in bookbinding allowed her to study with international artisans from France, Switzerland and the USA which introduced her to  contemporary binding styles as well as the ancient Coptic and Medieval case bindings. There are opportunities to combine printmaking with bookbinding which is very satisfying.

Images come from the details of the natural landscape as well as photos and sketches collected from places visited. It is often the poignant detail that captures her imagination.

Linda’s work has been exhibited and collected in Europe, North America and Australia.
