Bev Filmer

Bev Filmer

Beverly is best known for her oil painting and printmaking, particularly etching.

Her images often portray the Bega Valley where she was born and grew up. She enjoys landscape, animals and people from the original family farm near Bemboka and surrounds. More recent works have evolved from time spent in Kangaroo Valley and her new homeland in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

Art studies has been part of her life since childhood. However she pursued an academic career in Occupational Therapy and later ergonomics. In 2001 she realized her need to return to artistic practice and the depth of her connection to art. Thus she enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts, the Sydney Gallery School in 2002.

In 2010 she commenced a 3 year course at the celebrated Charlie Shead Studio School, Sydney. Concentrating on studying the techniques of the old masters, this led to a fascination for and appreciation of 15th–17th century painting. As a result Beverly enjoys exploring portraiture, specifically children in landscapes and still life. To date, her most powerful and passionate inspiration is her son and her role in motherhood.

Beverly has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions since 2005 in Sydney and in Regional galleries of NSW.
