Elizabeth Atkin

Elizabeth Atkin

Elizabeth Atkin has developed her art practise over many years starting off mainly as a water colourist. The opportunities presented by the various genres in printmaking led to new areas of exploration. This started with lithography, led into etching, and broadened into collagraphs, photopolymer printing and all experimental combination of these!

As a qualified bookbinder Elizabeth gets great joy from combining exquisite little prints (often hand tinted with watercolours) into hand bound books.

Printmaking courses both in Australia and overseas (Skopelos, Greece, and Venice, Italy) have given an added depth to her subject matter, as well as expanding her repertoire of techniques. Otherwise subjects tend to be taken from nature - landscapes, or her passion for fungi!

The impact of the Black Summer Bushfires (December 2019) was severe. Her professional print studio equipment and letterpress were lost in the inferno. The gallery/teaching studio survived with the rear burned off. It doubled as a "home in a shed" for 12 months.

Her spirit was undaunted but art output impacted, Elizabeth's resilience is shown by her fight back and emerging new subject matter during the recovery process.
