Kathryn Orton is an artist printmaker who has exhibited widely since 1984. Generally her work is about familiar places and things. "I am interested in contrast and ambiguity, memory and imagination and the process of change.
In my work I just try to show others how I see things. "
Kathryn has had seven solo shows at Legge Gallery, the last one Some time Elsewhere in 2007. Other solo shows include Small Fish in a Big Pond 1994 at Wollongong City Gallery and On the Streets at Goulburn Regional Art Gallery in 2009. Kathryn has had work displayed in the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Dobell Drawing Prize, the Shell Fremantle Print Award and has been included in many other national and state group exhibitions. In 1993, Kathryn illustrated Olwen Twelve Pockets a children’s book written by Fiona McKay.
Her work is in numerous public collections including the Art Gallery of NSW Research Library, Wollongong City Gallery, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, University of Wollongong Permanent Collection, University of Wollongong Union Collection, Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, Greece and in private collections throughout Australia.
Kathryn has been teaching with TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute since 1987 and is currently fulltime at the Goulburn Campus.
